Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Sociocultural barriers we have come across in our rural practice areas are
1. Poverty leading to unavailability of Alternate fuels to Cowdung cakes and Wood.
2. Lack of knowledge about the health hazards of indoor air Pollution
3. Misbeilefs: Food cooked from Solid fuels taste better than food cooked in other fuels; Solid fuels are cheap; Fear of Blats from L.P.G among few households.
4. Lack of knowledge on the availability of alternate fuel.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

We have experience in Market development for agricultural sector through our CBO structure in the Rural areas.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We have not experienced in technology standardization, however interested to participate in future.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Since we have a public health expert (MBBS and Masters in Community Medicine) who is heading all our health initiatives, we are interested in monitoring the exposure of indoor air pollution before and after various interventions in our rural areas.
