Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

SunFire is interested in sharing experiences in overcoming any social barriers to fuel efficient and Solar Cooking appliances. We continue to work with communities to overcome reservations, we find communities with a need are not as reluctant as many seem to imagine. This is an issue that we continually monitor

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

SunFire through its NGO Solar Cookers For Africa is very interested in working with fuel efficient stove manufacturers. SCFA is a continental-wide movement of solar and fuel efficient stove practisioners and projects, SCFA aims to create better links between solar and fuel efficient stove projects throughout the Continent.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

SunFire produces Parabolic Dishes in Johannesburg and is always looking to expand its range. Standards are helpful to the whole renewable energy cooking commuinity and SunFire is happy to engage PCIA partners with this.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

SunFire has just conducted a two month study into fuel use in and around the Johannesburg area - while the study is not particularly focused on indoor air pollution this is a subject we are actively interested in taking part and getting to know more of. We are in the process of creating a community monitoring system that can be used to verify emmisson reductons rather than flying in expensive consultants, we will keep PCIA partners updated on developments.
