Solar Cooking Netherlands aims to support the activities of social institutions in Eastern African countries that have made it their objective to promote the use of various forms of sustainable cooking by low-income households in these countries. Cooking with the Sun together with other sustainable cooking methods, constitutes a standard component. In facilitating the quality of life of deprived women and to release stress on the environment, SCN promotes and supports local initiatives for Integrated Sustainable Solar Cooking (ISSC) methods. SCN's challenge is to make ISSC accessible to large numbers of deprived families and at the same time, through dramatic reductions in the use of firewood, assist in the eradication of devastating deforestation.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas
Thousands of years cooking on a 3-stone fire makes the change to other more sustainable sources very complicated, unless women become aware of improvement of life by saving money, empowerment by participation in the local economy etc.
ISSC demands habit changes in daily cooking and thus monthly collective educational cooking groups. Public promotion is an integral part of projects; marketing demands specific introduction cooking demonstrations like house-cooking - parties for women of the same neighbourhood.
Public promotion and house cooking - parties with all ISSC equipment. Participation by women is essential to develop the market, because women are the experts on cooking.
Solar cookits, solar boxes, fuel saving stoves like Rocket stoves, Lorena stoves, Mirt medja, insulated hay baskets.
Instructresses organize the collective instruction cooking meetings and public promotion. Monitoring takes place during monthly meetings on the kind of food cooked, how many times per week, per day / amount of money saved by ISSC cooking, etc.
