Our Focus

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

The goals of the Proyecto de Infraestructura Descentralizada are:
10.000 households with solar home systems.
12.000 households using biomass for cooking and heating in an efficient way.

Fuels/Technologies: Biomass
Solar
Sectors of Experience: Energy
Environment
Infrastructure
Rural Development
Countries of Operation: Bolivia

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Lack of local skills to communicate the advantages of energy efficiency of biomass.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

The project has developed a strategy to promote self construction of cookstoves through training and technical assistance. This method is successful but very slow to attain high goals (more than 5.000 households).

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

To attain 10.000 or 20.000 households in a very short time, it is important to produce semi-industrial cookstoves. In Bolivia, there are not yet such conditions to improve the cooking in rural households.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:
