Kyetume Community Based Health Care Program takes an integrated approach the health. Kyetume Community Based Health Care Programme strives to improve the general health standards of underserved rural people within Mukono District and Uganda at large by influencing socio-economic and spiritual behavior of rural communities using a community based involvement/participatory and human rights approach. The Organization is shaped by Christian values as witnessed in the Gospel Commission of Mathew. 4:23-25.

Our Focus
Kyetume CBHC has just started the promotion of cleaner fuels and cooking methods. Currently 30 of the 70 CCAs (Community Counseling Aids) were trained in the construction of the fuel efficient stoves. We hope to increase that number with two more trainings.
Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas
Introducing a new way of doing anything is difficult, but when it comes to cooking, households have a hard time getting used to new technologies; as it affects when the food is ready. Households must be trained and encouraged to use this new cooking method. The construction of the stoves is also difficult, as it requires motivation by the community and individual households. There is also the consideration of using cow manure or night soil in the production of a cooking fuel and the use of the slurry after digestion is complete.
Kyetume CBHC Programme is a social service provider in the areas of basic health provision and economic empowerment of the most vulnerable people groups and majority of our customers for that matter are people living with HIVand AIDS, Orphans and Vulnerable children, youth in and out of school, child bearing mothers. Majority of these people are poor and unable to afford even the basics of life. Their demand for services is low because the per-capta income is considerably too low. Market development as per our target community is a slow process given the limitations briefly highlighted herein. AS the introduction of a new technology which saves on resources these people are willing to participate and their demand goes on increasing slowly but surely. Kyetume CBHC Programme will continue this way by empowering the people economically as we introduce other cost effective programs like clean air partnership for better health for the underserved.
Currently we are using two different technologies. The main one is the Rocket Lorena Stove developed by the GTZ. We hope to introduce the use of bio-gas from both cow manure and night soil.
The CCA's that have been trained report on the number of stoves they have constructed during the month along with other things during their monthly meetings.

Our Contribution to the Partnership
Kyetume CBHC will promote the construction of the Rocket Lorena Stove, to reduce the amount of firewood used and to limit the amount of smoke in the kitchen due to the chimney. We also hope to introduce the concept of bio-gas to the community, starting with farmers with zero-grazing cows. Were the manure can be used to produce bio-gas which can be used for cooking.
