Fuel Use, Air Pollution and Health Outcomes of MCC Mongolia Heating Stove Project

On November 24, 2015 Winrock International and the U.S. EPA hosted a webinar titled "Fuel Use, Air Pollution and Health Outcomes of MCC Mongolia Heating Stove Project". Courtenay Engelke from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and Leslie Greene Hodel and Rufus Edwards from the Social Impact evaluation team shared final results from the MCC Mongolia Energy and Environment Project (EEP) and presented findings from a third party impact evaluation. While the evaluation found no significant changes in total fuel usage attributable to the subsidy program, likely for user behavior-related reasons, the program is estimated to have led to a 30% reduction in ambient PM2.5 in Ulaanbaatar attributable to residential stoves and a 10% reduction in air pollution related disease outcomes.
