Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

None

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

We are really committed to sharing technologies that reduce indoor pollution, which mostly affects women who are always dealing with household heating and cooking duties. The market to test and distribute these technologies is so vast in Zimbabwe. However, the greatest limitation has been the capacity to do the work.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We are so committed, but as indicated above the network is not well capacitated to accomodate technology starndasition, though it remains one ofthe long term objectives of the network to be the lead organisation to promote standard technlogies.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We are currently analysing the trends and health effects of indoor air pollution in the eastern part of the country. The analysis will lead to the promotion of relevant and appropriate technologies to reduce health risks.

Relevant Publications or Studies

We have a bi-annual publication called "The Network." We have so far produced two newsletters with the third one to be produced in August 2009.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

The network will participate in workshops, share experiences and ideal solutions to energy problems in Africa, and contribute stories of change to the PCIA newsletter.
