Request for Application: Health Impacts of IAP (PAPA Program)

Attached is a new Request for Application from the Health Effects Institute’s Public Health and Air Pollution in Asia (PAPA) program. The PAPA Program and its broader international program supports a program of policy-relevant research and capacity building for studies of air pollution and health effects in developing countries of Asia and Latin America. With this new research solicitation, the PAPA program plans to fund several studies of air pollution impacts on infant and children’s health and chronic cardiovascular and respiratory disease within the developing countries of Asia.

This latest solicitation for studies of the health effects of air pollution exposure in Asia includes a Request for Application (RFA) and a Request for Information and Qualification (RFIQ):

  • RFA 09-2, Impact of Air Pollution on Infant and Children's Health in Asia, seeks proposals on the health effects of air pollution in developing countries of Asia with respect to 1) adverse pregnancy outcomes, including low birth weight, pre-term birth, and birth defects, and/or 2) acute lower respiratory infection in children and other children’s health outcomes. Letters of Intent for RFA 09-2 are due on June 28, 2009; applications are due on August 7, 2009.
  • RFIQ 09-3, Studies of Long-Term Exposure to Air Pollution and Chronic Cardiovascular and Respiratory Disease in Asia, seeks to identify scientific teams interested in conducting epidemiologic studies of long-term exposure to air pollution and chronic cardiovascular and respiratory disease in developing countries of Asia. The deadline for submission of the Statement is August 7, 2009.

The attached request for application presents the detailed objectives and application instructions regarding RFA 09-2 and RFIQ 09-3 for studies of the health effects of air pollution exposure in Asia. This information and application forms are also available on the HEI website (www.healtheffects.org),
