Magnastar Inc.

Mission

Magnastar Inc.'s aim is to disseminate renewable energy and appropriate technologies to the rural and semi urban areas. Activities include: implementation of turn key projects in renewable energy sectors; developmental work on indoor air pollution as well on animal energy; evaluation and reports on rural development works executed by NGOs and government departments; projects submitted to prevent slash & burn cultivation by tribal; a project submitted for check of green house effects by elimination of fossil fuel burning; and a project on indoor air pollution issues.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Our past experience reveals that use of traditional fuels is due to their availability at zero cost; given that chance, there is no social or cultural barrier to use them. In case of alternative fuels, the 'imposition' by so called innovaters/planners/executing agencies, in the past, has become the cultural barrier to adapt to the 'improved' alternative fuels. It is the appropriateness that has lacked in innovations and extension technologies in accepting an improved alternative fuels. Our mission is now to reset the clock and see that the initiation is from the users rather than the promoters of alternative fuels.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

We have marketed alternative fuels studying the cultural practices, cooking habits and the available fuel resources. Zone/region-wise and need-wise, entrepreunership development is one of our key goals.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We have focused on innovations that are simple and adoptable as well as sustainable by the users for cooking and heating. In terms of ventilation, since economic conditions do not permit standardisation/innovation, the in-situ innovation and capability of the users, the ventilation is chalked out. There can not be a standard defined as per our experience in the field in our rural areas.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Health monitoring or IAP have not been addressed to date. Given an opportunity, we shall work through a variety of standard sets.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

We can educate on alternative fuels programmes' & biogas technology dissemination both on theory & practice based on our past experience. These shall be appropriate to the area of need. The second participation is through exchange of our 'failure & success' stories earned through our experience in improved alternative fuels and biogas technology disciplines.
