Kenya Green Energy Foundation

Mission

The Kenya Green Energy Foundation exists to increase access to clean and affordable energy for the increasingly growing rural populations, providing sustained partnership to individuals, NGOs and renewable energy enterpreneurs in combating energy poverty, climate change and environmental protection.

The Foundation also solicits and provides start up green grants for sustainable renewable energy (RE) initiatives in Kenya. Approved RE technologies must demonstrate perceivable evidence of reduced carbon emissions into the atmosphere, significantly improve child and mother survival, increase availability of refrigerated essential drugs and vaccines for emergency services, airtricity services to promote economic enterpreneurship, computer and access to internet and IT services and ensure increased school enrollment and girl child participation in educational and developmental activities. The Kenya Green Energy Foundation is already raising funds for Wajir, Garissa and Mandera wind-solar power projects targeting seven major business satellites in each of the three districts to directly benefit 120,000people, 21 primary schools, 12 health dispensaries, 6 solar powered watering points and 50 green trees projects, all in the first five years, funds permitting.

Our Focus

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

WAJIR Wind-Solar Power Project is in development and plans to fundraise for three district (Wajir, Mandera and Garissa) renewable energy power projects, which are at an advanced stage. Donors and renewable energy (wind-solar hybrid power supporters) are welcome to pledge their moral, material and financial support for this noble initiative that will take the Northern pastoralist communities on the attainment of MDG pathway. Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

The Kenya Green Energy Foundation's main focus is in tandem with the dictates of partnership. The renewable energy initiative will promote family health and reduce child mortality and morbidity rates; The wind-solar hybrid power projects will increase economic enterpreneurships, reduce indoor pollution, free women to engage in gainful and developmental activitities and more importantly facilitate reversal of traditional practices where only women and girl children participate in cooking. Now men too can use electric cookers, the project releases human potential in education, business enterpreneurship and gender development, saves environment and promotes health biodoiversity.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

The Kenya Green Energy Foundations rural energy needs survey reveals that Rural communities priorities for Human development demands accelerated access to not only improved cooking stoves but also access to renewable energy power services.Clean power is the foundation for rural development.our Foundation fully supports the higher need for access to diverse sources of clean and affordable energy services in Rural, urban and peri-urban environments.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

The Kenya Green Energy Foundation has highly experienced and qualified personel and will continue to influence and advocate for set of balanced and environment sensitive energy policy development and deployment and development of globally recognised and approved renewable energy services for cooking, water heating and ventillation. KENGEF will cultivate professional and productive global partnerships to ensure standardization.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

The Kenya Green Energy Foundation has, through its technical baseline surveys, established that there exists a high prevalence of child mortalities attributed to indoor air pollution, eye infection and carbon monoxide suffocations. Kenya Green Energy Foundation will develop a feasible data and information base, by conducting KAP,that can be used to track and monitor household use of improved energy service and monitor mortality and morbidities attributed to lack of access to clean energy. KENGEF will institute an aggressive public awareness campaigns to reverse the traditional practices.
