Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

The main social cultural barrier is traditionalism that believes in patriach principles based on gender descrimination in resource use. Women have been labeled as being responsible for traditional gender roles such as cooking which makes them the biggest consumers of biomass energy in form of firewood. Most rural women are illiterate and it becomes more tiresome to demonstrate and help them learn sustainable practices.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Market development requires increased communication and involvement of media to help the target population access relevent information in time.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Technology continues to grow and is updated from time to time, until when standards agency in Uganda will be asked to certify.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

The monitoring is done both internaly and externally, by competent agencies such as National Environment Management Authority.
