CVS Consulting (Africa)

Mission

My organisation was established in April 2008 to offer advice on, and facilitate, projects working within the carbon offset market in East Africa. The carbon market makes some energy efficiency and alternative energy projects in the region more viable financially. I am assisting project developers and communities in attaining project finance and project implementation for the issuance of carbon credits. I am also seeking viable commercial projects for investors in Europe and the U.S. Improved household cooking and heating appliances that reduce carbon emissions provide an opportunity for investment within the carbon market. I want to utilise this to improve air quality and household energy resources for communities in East Africa.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Since the issuance of carbon credits relies both on valid emission reductions AND achieving sustainable development factors, understanding the social/cultural barriers to deploying an 'improved' form of household energy is essential to successfully achieving the aims of carbon finance.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

I am interested in how developing the informal charcoal industry in to a sustainable source of household energy can be done in connection with reducing the demand for charcoal through the use of more efficient and alternative fuel appliances.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

The replication over space of a project that reduces carbon emissions through improved household energy is very attractive to sustained financing from the carbon market. Technology standardization will support the development of industry methodologies for issuing credits.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Monitoring for carbon emissions is a critical element to securing financing from the carbon market, and to the actual issuance of carbon credits.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

I would like to contribute to the Partnership knowledge and experience gathered from assessing household energy projects for finance injections from the carbon market. I would hope to connect the project developers on the ground with the Partnership to share technological expertise and other useful observations and data.
