Centro de Ecologia y Genero (Centro ECO)

Mission

The Centro de Ecología y Género (Centro ECO), is an organization that promotes a holistic and environmentally sound rural development, with a focus on family and values. Centro ECO was created to prevent and reverse the process of desertification, deforestation and erosion, while at the same time improving the quality of life of rural and marginalized urban populations living in areas of high environmental degradation and indexes of extreme poverty. Centro ECO accomplishes its objectives through the promotion of activities that depend on the dry forest and serve to create self- subsistence and income generation for the inhabitants. We also work to develop sustainable systems of rural sanction to improve the health and quality of life of local people.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

We have experience in development projects that have as a component implementing healthy stoves; our actions have benefited more than 10,000 people with the implementation of healthy cooking with the support of international cooperation, private enterprise and the same participant population.


Market development for improved cooking technologies:

We have developed markets through awareness to companies that make intensive use of agricultural labour in the importance that their employees can have access to these technologies kitchens healthy as this helps improve their quality of life and his job performance. Likewise we are promoting government policies that put the issue on the political agenda. We conduct advocacy and also sell stoves to people who wish to buy them.


Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

The technology used is to reduce the consumption of biomass and production of greenhouse gases, this is done through the improvement of combustion and training to participating families.


Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We conducted health monitoring of participating families and measured indoor air pollution to assess the impact of the introduction of clean technologies.
