Our Focus

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

The project involves the switch from open fire cook stoves with primary use of non-renewable woody biomass to more improved biomass cook stoves. The improved stoves can decrease the consume of non- renewable woody biomass and preserve in this way the biodiversity of the forests. Additional it will improve the people’s health, reduces the cooking costs and needed time.
Furthermore is planned that the project includes an education- program about maintenance, lower fuel consumption, sustainable climate and environmental protection.

Fuels/Technologies: Biomass
Sectors of Experience: Rural Development
Countries of Operation: Nicaragua

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Meeting the needs of local communities for clean, efficient, affordable and safe cooking and heating options. In Nicaragua there is a big lack of improved cook stoves, especially in poor and rural areas where we are working.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Developing commercial markets for clean and efficient technologies and fuels: The project will help the participating households to maintain and construct improved cook stoves themselves.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Improving cooking technologies, fuels and practices for reducing indoor air pollution: Learning from your experience in this subject would help us in our work.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Monitoring and evaluating the health, social, economic and environmental impact of household energy interventions: It is planned to monitor the different impacts. Learning from your experience in this subject would help us in our work.
