International Institute for Ecological Agriculture

Mission

Founded and managed by internationally renowned biofuel and regenerative agriculture expert David Blume, IIEA’s central mission is to help develop educational outreach programs that demonstrate the benefits of building sustainable food and fuel production programs and the making and use of renewable biofuel-based energy solutions, (principally bio-alcohol and ethanol fuels).

David Blume is the author of the Amazon.com best selling book "Alcohol Can Be A Gas" (www.alcoholcanbeagas.com) and is the leading advocate for alcohol fuel and the role of the American farmer in helping develop improved and sustainable energy and food programs for our country. Mr. Blume received the American Corn Growers Association "Truth in Agricultural Journalism" award and is currently teaching people across the country how we can develop "clean" and truly renewable food and energy production programs and help create millions of new non-exportable Agricultural jobs for our working farmers based on permaculture practice and methodology.

Our Focus

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

David Blume just returned from his engagement as a plenary session presenter at the Agriculture and Biotechnology International Conference in Saskatoon Canada. He has spoken at the BIO World Energy conference, is currently consulting with the University of Mexico in Jalisco, Mexico on agave to fuel projects as well as on regenerative ag for fuel source production in New Zealand. Additionally Mr. Blume has taught permaculture in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

IIEA is currently working on putting together an International Educational Seminar presenting the fundamental concepts of using appropriate scale alcohol fuel production to stimulate economic opportunities as well as to provide programs that will reduce carbon output as well as deforestation in third world nations. The seminar is slated to run November 29 - December 2nd in Atlanta GA. Project Gaia will be a participating co-sponsor of the event.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Meeting Social/Behavioral Needs; IIEA has been teaching governmental agencies, educators, scientists and business leaders around the globe best practices for producing clean, sustainable appropriate scale alcohol fuel from local resources and waste streams to lower carbon emissions, replace deforestation for heat and cooking for over a decade.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Developing Local Markets; IIEA and David Blume's book "Alcohol Can Be A Gas!" detail ways to develop high-value, high-return co-products in conjunction with the production of appropriate scale alcohol fuel. The systems IIEA advocates encourage the development of strong local economies that produce their own food, fuel, and non-exportable jobs.

IIEA has been supplying the means to replace biomass, wood, and toxic fossil fuel usage for heating, cooking and transportation for over a decade. Through its outreach programs people all over the world are learning how to optimize local ecoresources, fuel stocks and waste stream resources to develop clean, safe energy for home and work use.

Though conferences, consultations and the production of educational resources IIEA is giving people everywhere access to the knowledge, methods and means to create truly sustainable living communities.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Improving Technology Design and Performance; IIEA provides technological solutions based on permaculture and regenerative agriculture methodologies and provides technology training and insight critical for the development of appropriate scale alcohol fuel production.

David Blume is a biosystematologist. He has worked on designing stoves, heating systems and refrigeration appliances that all run on locally produced alcohol fuel. IIEA's focus is on producing the fuel and co-products that make it possible to replace open fire cooking and heating sources and biomass as well as petroleum-based fuels.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Monitoring Impacts of Interventions; IIEA is working on the design for high-tech supported alcohol fuel distillation systems that are containerized and componentized to enable shipping to remote or emergency deployment sites, and that will quickly provide (within three days of installation) clean fuel for heating and cooking as well as transportation.

IIEA is in touch with contacts at coops, universities, governmental agencies and organizations around the globe via Skype-backed teleconferences, email and Web as well as through in-person visits. David Blume travels to provide on site inspections and advise as to optimal resource usage and development plans.

IIEA works with a number of agencies to help guide and direct current community redevelopment plans with an eye toward energy and economic self sufficiency.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

IIEA will be hosting introduction to appropriate scale alcohol fuel production development workshops and conferences in conjunction with other PCIA members (including Project Gaia and the US EPA). It looks to provide on site pilot programs in third world nations around the globe, establishing teaching and laboratory facilities to demonstrate best-practice solutions to local food and fuel production, while helping to create abundant new non-exportable "Green" jobs.
