Our Focus
We are planting billions of slips of vetiver to stop the erosion and rebuild the soil so mountainsides can retain water and nutrients throughout Haiti. We are trying to get TLUD stoves that burn clean and make biochar with the tons of vetiver grass that will be available to stop the need for charcoal. The result of our permaculture designed project will be stopping erosion, replenishing the soil to produce more food and replenish the forests.
Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas
Haitians are just trying to survive and resist change. They must not only be taught but shown how they can feed there families before they will stop using charcoal. Mothers will continue to use unsafe cooking fuels because that's all most of them have to cook with now.
We promote stoves and will try to market them to all groups helping Haiti. We do not manufacture the stoves, we are promoting rocket designed stoves through Aprovecho, working with Peko Pe stoves through Miombo and Lucia Stoves through World Stove.
See our page on clean cook stoves http://haitireconstruction.ning.com/page/highest-efficiency-cooking
Members of our group are also members of other NGO's such as Otto Formo working with Miombo. Everyone in our group has common permaculture interests in the health of people and the land we live in.
I have seen many woman cooking over charcoal with watery eyes. Hopefully we will get millions of safe stoves in Haiti, we cannot test every where but we will test every type of stove we approve.
