Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

So far we have not worked on stoves. However, the critical point is not social/cultural barriers, rather, the poor rural dwellers have little choice since they majorly depend on traditional fuel, which is almost free, because a stove means spending money on fuel(the type of stove refered here is the popular or common kerosine stove, which dominate the Nigerian rural & urban markets. However, there may be negligible population in the villages who may wish to hold fast to superstition on the compulsory use of traditional fuel even if they have an alternative.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Developing a market for improved cooking technologies is quite a simple task, provided such technologies are affordable, available, and accessible at all times. Such technologies must reduce carbon emissions, with very little or no effects on human and environmental health. Our company has the capacity to market such concepts irrespective of terrain.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Technology standardization must reduce carbon emissions, with very little or no effects on human and environmental health. It should be durable, cheap and easy to operate and maintain.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Indoor air pollution presents in various ways: use of local kerosine lanterns; cooking with kerosine stoves; carbon monoxide from nearby electrical generators; indoor kitchens without well built chimneys; pollution from poorly managed toilet and sewage facilities, etc. The type of health monitoring conducted depends on the literacy and socio-economic status on the settings.
