Mission

Felix Energy Services works as catalyst between different service providers in the field of renewable energy and the ultimate rural consumers i.e. households. The mission of Felix Energy Services is to help and assist parties involved in doing business in renewable energy so that it could come up as win win situation for all. We also help to link the gaps that are missing, lobby for policy changes and bring resources - so that the sector further flourishes in Bangladesh.

Our Focus

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

To date we involved half a dozen organisations, especially local NGOs, to work on biomass stoves. We offered them training on technical issues along with business, accounting and supervision so that they can set up biomass stoves for rural Bangladesh. We also linked them up with financing organisations, development partners and carbon fund managers in Bangladesh, so that they can be benefited and encouraged to do the work to the full extent. We are now covering all of Bangladesh, either reaching via biomass stoves or biogas generators.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

The barrier that we are facing with biomass stoves is the tradition. Most of the rural women are used to cooking with traditional stoves that consume plenty of wood. They just don't feel comfort in using improved cooking stoves. We don't feel any other barriers in that level.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Felix Energy Services found that the market is quite developed and is further developing in Bangladesh. The problem that we are facing is not related to marketing - we are actually facing a problem in setting up stoves quickly, as the technicians often leave for new jobs instead of setting up stoves. In general technicians do not feel it is an honorable profession for them.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Around some 2 years back we got standardized technology through GTZ. Recently we got a special frame to set up stoves and we found it very beneficial.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Monitoring is getting simpler as we in Bangladesh make a target for each of the marketing officials and they get paid on the basis of order collection. Similarly, technicians are given targets and they get paid on the basis of those targets.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

We are working with cross sectors i.e. donor communities, government bodies and non-governmental organisations on the one hand, and on the other hand we involve financial institutions to finance this sector, advertising firms and influential local government officials which we found is quite working for disseminating the technology much faster then we anticipated at the beginning. So we are quite sure that we could be able to share our experience with the world forum from a different angle.
