Our Focus

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

We are running our energy cooking system in the Faridpur region. Till today more than 325 Bandhu chula already set-up and working in poor and middle class households in the working area. We are strengthening this program by establishing a separate region only for Bandhu chula and we have targeted to set-up at least 100 Bandhu chula per month. A special administrative set up has already been designed and started to work in the area where one area manager 4 manager/marketing officer and necessary technicians will be engaged to implement the program in a stronger way.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Since the beginning, there are some social barriers we have faced. Barriers are households have always practiced traditional cooking systems, so initially, they have some some regimentation to introduce new technology. We have a community mobilization program to overcome social/cultural barriers. Especially, we have close supervision for first 10 days to clients so that he/she cannot go back to his traditional cooking system and become familiar with the new system.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

We are doing marketing promotion through a market Development officer in the area. He visits the area with our area manager and organizes meetings with our education package beneficiaries. Most of our beneficiaries are female and they become very attentive to listen. Finally they put their demand on the spot and we install the chula. It may be noted we have more than 4000 motivated beneficiaries in the area. They are our immediate target beneficiaries who receive the chula.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Its a highly potential sector which is needed to create demand in the community. Different technologies and diversified options are being utilized in the project area. Technology is changing and improving as per demand of the households. The trends is to improve the system, so we cannot stand on the specific technologies.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Computer database and monitoring systems should have to be developed. As Eco Society is a partner of GIZ, we are following the monitoring format of GIZ along with our existing monitoring system.

Relevant Publications or Studies

We have no publications except some leaflets and advertising paper.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

By implementing environmentally friendly cooking systems, the organization is reducing carbon in the air and contributing to combat adverse effects of climate change. Our experience is increasing with the expansion of program. In the meantime, we had an exposure visit to a newly rising organization with Bandhu chula. So learning sharing and participation can be done. Our organization can organize seminar/workshops as well as we can participate with others for same purpose.
