Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Foremost is the lack of awareness of the renewability of biomass energy in Africa. Tree planting for firewood/charcoal has never been so lucrative of a venture and has also never been so sidelined from banker to peasant. We address this disparity by our ongoing demonstration of the clean seed-to-ash energy cycle at our arboretum in Kitnegela Town.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

I have been on the ground selling charcoal ovens and cookstoves for the last 12 years in Kenya, developing a network to expand and extend opportunities for people to buy energy saving charcoal stoves through direct sales, online sales, Mpesa cellphone money transfer services etc.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

All of our products are standardized to the designers' specifications of high quality, ease of use and household acceptability.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

I have never done scientific data recovery of monitoring indoor air pollution but from direct observation I have seen many smokey kitchens become much less so. Please refer to the website for pictures.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

I can bring my adult lifetime experience of disseminating the most successful improved cookstove in Africa, the KCJ, to the table. I also wish to provide a ready supply of improved stoves to anyone who would like to buy one.
