Our Focus
CarboCo's initial project is in Madagascar and will target peri-urban and rural users of charcoal for cooking, providing efficient ICS at very affordable prices.
Initial pilots will be in peri-urban off-grid areas. Initially a regional initiative, once proven it will be scaled nationally and then internationally.
Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas
CarboCo has undertaken market research to understand local preferences and cooking requirements in Madagascar. This includes the type and duration of cooking. Entrepreneur programmes to generate wealth Stove design and adoption Distribution to urban and rural communities Monitoring and Evaluation
CarboCo will be able to share experience of micro-employment and micro-franchise sales approaches.
CarboCo has been trialling a number of stoves for use in Madagascar, looking at efficiency performance, ease of use, and user acceptance.
CarboCo is keen to be involved in establishing standards for ICS.
Limited experience of stove usage over time as project only recently launched. CarboCo intends to monitor usage and performance of stoves looking at the biomass fuel reduction and the corresponding economic benefits to users. User behaviour (such as increased cooking) will be assessed. More subjective measures such as dignity and women's prestige/empowerment will be evaluated as part of our post-distribution evaluations.
